Creatively led multiple teams of some of the best illustrators, set designers, model makers, carpenters, painters, sculptures, welders, mould makers, laborers, coordinators, and assistants to bring many of the sets to life. We also worked very closely with the VAD teams to develop our sets on the LED stage. Below are select images from the final edit to the process that went behind in creating some of my sets.

ARCANA

| BUILD ON BACKLOT

This has been by far my largest set to date. It came in at a whopping 100+ feet and spanned our entire backlot. This set had a huge stunt sequence that we needed to accommodate for and attached to another “underground” set that we end up building on stage.

RED FOREST

STAGE BUILD |

This was one of my personal favorite sets to bring to life for the use of organics and creating nature from another planet. Inspired by a scene from the 2002 film Hero, we wanted to create an environment full of leaves and depth that could play as multiple sets. This brought the challenge of having to design the set in a way that allowed for quick changeovers to get a totally different look, while staying in the same forest. Not to mentioned we had the constrains of the stage. This set was brilliantly curated by our greens team with Richie Bell at the helm. Every tree, stump, leaf, & moss was real. The trunks were stained black while the leaves were stained red to serve our Seatos world.

SEATOS

| STAGE BUILD

This was a major cliff side set that we decided didn’t work on the Volume stage because of the low lighting in the world, so we had to pivot and start planning this build for our largest stage. This rocky cliffside had unique rock features that jetted up into the sky. It also included an intricate floor carving and design that played a role in the overall script and was related to a past set. After a ton of research and samples we landed on the tone and color of the set with our sculptures and painters and then it was left to our greens team to add in the detail of moss, dirt and water.

HOME ONE

STAGE BUILD |

Being the Star Wars fan that I am, this set came with major pressure to get it right. Originally done in the 1983 Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, this set is one of the most iconic memorable sets of all time. It took meticulous combing through all the old archival photos of the original set to mathematically figure out the correct scale along with all the graphic details and set dressing. Super challenging but very rewarding to see it completed.

SABINE’S TOWER

| STAGE BUILD

We first saw this set in the animated series Rebels created by Dave Filoni. Since our show was based on their characters, we brought many of the animated sets to real life and this was one of them. Sabine’s quarters had so much spunk, character, and easter eggs which was so fun to get into. We played with a lot of textures and color which was outside of the normal Star Wars universe.

PERIDIA

STAGE BUILD |

The series finishes out on an planet that is outside the main galaxy. It was amazing to create something for the first time we haven’t seen in the Star Wars universe. This planet wanted to feel vast, rural and ancient. Because of this, much of the environments were created for the LED Volume. The few physical builds we had were sets within a massive stone fortress that acted as the focal point of the last few episodes.
